We sell a report about what AI assistants say about your business. To make one, we need a few facts about that business and a way to email you the result. This page says exactly what we collect, who else touches it, and how long we keep it.

01Who we are

Answerlit is an independent AI visibility audit service, based in Mexico. Answerlit is the responsable for the personal data described on this page.

For anything about your data, including any request to see, correct, or delete it, email [email protected]. A person reads that inbox.

02What we collect

We collect four separate things, depending on what you do on the site. We do not buy data about you from anyone else.

If you order an audit

The intake form asks for your business name, website domain, city, industry, an optional focus, optional competitor names, optional notes, plus your name and email address. Your name and email are personal data. The rest describes your business, and it is what the audit actually measures.

If you ask for a free check

We keep your business name, city, type of business, your website if you gave it, and your email address, so we can find your business in the answers and send you the result. Your result page sits at a private, unguessable address that search engines are told not to index. If one of our ads or links brought you to the site, we also note which one.

If you download the sample report

We store your email address, your business name if you give it, which language version you asked for, and the page that referred you.

If you pay

Stripe processes the payment. Your card number never reaches our servers and we never see it. We store the Stripe session and payment identifiers so we can match your payment to your order, and the amount you paid.

03Why we use it

  • To deliver what you bought. Your business details are the input to the audit. Your email is where the report goes.
  • To send you your free check. Your business name is what we look for in the answers. Your email is where the link goes.
  • To keep records we are required to keep. Payment records, receipts, and tax records.
  • To follow up on your free check. Up to three emails over the next ten days about your result and the full audit. Every one has a link to stop them, and they stop on their own if you buy.
  • To understand how the site is used in aggregate, so we can make it clearer.
  • To measure our ads. When you ask for a free check or pay for an audit, we tell Meta (Facebook and Instagram), so we can see which of our ads bring in customers and Meta can show them to similar businesses. We send your email address only as a hash, a code that lets Meta recognise it but not read it, together with your IP address and browser.

We do not sell your data. Apart from measuring our ads with Meta, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not use it to build a profile of you across other websites. Meta handles what we send it under its own terms.

04What we send to AI assistants

This is the part worth reading closely, because it is the whole product.

To run your audit we send buyer style questions to four external AI services: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Perplexity. Those questions contain your business name, your city, your industry, and any competitors you named. They are written the way a real customer would ask, because a question a customer would never ask measures nothing useful.

We do not send your personal contact details to any AI provider. Your name, your email address, and your private notes to us stay out of every prompt.

These four providers state that data sent through their paid APIs is not used to train their models by default. We rely on that, but they are independent companies and their terms are their own.

The free check sends even less: a few general questions about your type of business in your city, which never mention your business, sent to one provider (OpenAI).

05Who else touches your data

We are a small operation and we use a small number of established services. These are all of them.

ServiceWhat it doesWhat it sees
StripeTakes the paymentYour name, email, and card details, which we never see
CloudflareHosts the site and the databaseEverything stored: orders, sample requests, free-check result pages
ResendSends our emailYour email address and the contents of the message
PostHogWebsite analyticsPages viewed, clicks, approximate location, device
Meta (Facebook, Instagram)Measures our adsVisits to our homepage, whether you asked for a free check or paid, your IP address and browser, and your email address as a hash
OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, PerplexityAnswer the audit questionsYour business name, city, industry, competitors

We will also disclose data if the law genuinely requires it. If Answerlit is ever sold or transferred, your data moves with it, and this policy continues to apply until you are told otherwise.

06Cookies

We use PostHog for analytics, and it sets cookies to recognise a returning browser. Our homepage also loads the Meta Pixel, which sets advertising cookies (_fbp, plus _fbc when you arrive from a Facebook or Instagram ad) so Meta can tell which ad brought you. We use it only to measure our own ads.

You can block cookies in your browser settings and everything on the site except the analytics and the ad measurement will keep working normally.

07How long we keep it

  • Orders and delivered reports: 24 months after delivery, so we can handle payment disputes, tax records, and a re-send if you lose your copy.
  • Free instant checks: 12 months, then deleted.
  • Sample report requests: 12 months, then deleted.
  • Payment records held by Stripe: for as long as Stripe’s own retention rules and our tax obligations require.

If you ask us to delete your data sooner, we will, except for the minimum payment records we are legally required to retain.

08Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what data we hold about you
  • Correct anything that is wrong
  • Delete it
  • Send you a copy in a portable format
  • Stop using it for a particular purpose

Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. We will not charge you for it and we will not make you explain why.

09Where your data lives

Our database and our service providers are based in the United States, so your data is stored and processed there. If you are writing to us from Mexico, the European Union, or the United Kingdom, that is an international transfer, and by sending us your details you are agreeing to it.

10Security

Payments go through Stripe and card data never reaches us. The site is served over HTTPS. Our admin endpoints require a secret token. Free-check result pages sit at unguessable addresses and are kept out of search engines. We keep the number of places your data lives deliberately small.

No system is perfect. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will email you and tell you what happened.

11Children

This is a service sold to businesses. It is not directed at anyone under 18 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

12Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant and we have your email because you are a customer, we will email you about it rather than quietly editing the page.

Questions about any of this: [email protected]. See also our Terms of Service.
